Hand Quilt was made when I was hankering for a quilt made of light yellow and periwinkle. There are about 40 different fabrics used in this small quilt that measures about 20x24. The hand, of course, is the hand of friendship, with the heart in the center. I embellished it with pearls for a ring, and added an outline stitch by hand. Another of my tricks of the trade is to use DMC Embroidery floss for quilting, rather than regular quilting thread. This way, I can match the color of the floss to the design, rather than just depending on the fewer variations in shades found in quilting threads. I use just 3 strands of a 6-strand floss. I also made a hand quilt for a dear friend, Beth Kramer. She and I only met a few times in "real life" but talked on the phone often, and e-mailed each other almost daily. We both have a love of homeschooling and a desire to encourage Christian homeschooling moms in their pursuits. I'll add a photo of Beth's quilt when I can. I called hers The Hand of Friendship. |
